Statement from the AIA Oregon Board of Directors

To our members,

We want to begin by acknowledging the events that took place recently at our country’s Capitol. The division that is deeply embedded in our social fabric is clearly visible in those horrific images, which evoke our history's darkest past and demonstrate the longstanding biases that live on today in the hearts of so many Americans. We want to extend our support to all of our members who may feel this as an affront to their safety or wellbeing.

Turning our attention to today, we’d like to restate the words of our Chapter President Amy Vohs when she writes, “As a chapter, we will continue to move AIA Oregon to a better normal, a normal where we can lift our voices in the face of injustice.” This new normal starts now. AIA Oregon is shocked by the recent hate speech which is aimed toward sowing the seeds of alienation, misinformation, and violence. We unequivocally denounce any form of discriminatory language or action aimed at Black, Indigenous, people of color, members of the LGBTQ2SIA, religious or ethnic minority communities. AIA Oregon continues to strive for equitable and inclusive communities, standing for the safety and wellbeing of all, and we expect our colleagues to support and pursue this along with us.

We see you. We stand with you. You belong here too.
