Last month, the Eugene Architecture Community lost one of its long-time members - John Lawless.
Excerpts from his obituary in the Register Guard
“He started his architecture career as a graduate of ASU. Though some of John’s building projects are in Arizona and California, John is best known in the community for his long standing architectural design career as principal of TBG Architects and Planners in Eugene. He also served on the Eugene Planning Commission for eight years and was president of the AIA SW chapter for two. John also gave of his time mentoring U of O architecture students and interns and was on selection committees for the state of Oregon Percent For Art Program.”
“John’s architectural hand and guidance were paramount and outstanding. U of O projects of note are the Knight Library, Allen Hall, and the Student Rec Center. His medical buildings include The Pete Moore Hospice House, The 10 Coburg, Cottage Grove Hospital, and the Physicians and Surgeons Building. Twenty five years of his life was spent remodeling the downtown Sacred Heart Hospital. His retail work includes The Oakway Heritage Courtyard, The 5th Street Public Market, The Inn at The 5th, Market of Choice stores, and Bring Recycling. He also did design work on Serenity Lane, the Willamette Oaks Retirement Community, the 10th and Mill Building, and was the primary designer of Temple Beth Israel. The list is longer, leaving a legacy of beauty and function.”
