For the August Urban Design Panel Multnomah Co, Holst and PLACE are going to share an update on the Library Bond Program and dive into the East County Library project in Gresham, https://multcolib.org/building-libraries-together/east-county-library
Building libraries together
Great libraries. Great communities. Building for the future.
Construction is underway! Come learn more about progress made on the Multnomah County Library Bond, approved by voters in November 2020. Investments under this bond measure include; renovations and/or expansions to Albina, Belmont, Midland, North Portland, and St. Johns Libraries; a new operations center; eleven library refresh projects; and three entirely new library buildings. Multnomah County's project delivery team will provide an overview and progress update on the work already underway.
One of the most significant investment under this bond is the East County Library in Gresham, a new 95,000 sf community amenity and public realm designed by HOLST and PLACE. The project will transform an underutilized park & ride on the corner of NW Division Street and NW Eastman Parkway, providing easy access and a variety of services for all East County residents. A new Civic Hub for events and markets will define the north edge of the site and complement Gresham City Hall and Plaza, which sit across from the MAX station. The building’s design blends into the natural landscape and patterns of the Pacific Northwest, creating a thoughtful beacon that will serve community members for generations to come. Our August Urban Design Panel will dive into ongoing community engagement, site context, programming, and design intent behind this landmark destination.
