Innovations and Operations: Developments in Sustainable Precast
1 AIA LU|HSW Available
Description: Precast concrete is a durable, resilient material that can provide many benefits to efficient, sustainable structures in the long term. While concrete does have an upfront CO2 impact, the precast industry is working to reduce GHG emissions and increase the efficiency of its products. This presentation will discuss technical innovations to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete and examine current process improvements that are pushing the industry forward to a more sustainable future.
Learning Objective 1: Attendees will learn about attributes, benefits and considerations of using precast concrete in the holistic design of sustainable structures.
Learning Objective 2: Established and developing technologies aimed at reducing the environmental impact of precast concrete will be examined.
Learning Objective 3: Participants will discover ways that process improvements, production efficiencies and other producer efforts are creating GHG reductions today.
Learning Objective 4: Case studies will demonstrate ways that precast producers are lowering the environmental impact of their products, and ways that projects are achieving sustainability goals with precast.
HSW Statement: Reducing the environmental impact of building materials like precast concrete is vital to building safe, durable and resilient buildings that foster healthy communities.
