The OMSI District will be a one-of-a-kind neighborhood: an inclusive community destination with innovation, culture and science learning at its heart. A new waterfront education park will honor people and place and will be the first in the city to restore an urban tribal presence on the Willamette River. The District will also include restored riparian and upland habitats, hand-on outdoor science programming and interpretation that affirms, sustains and shares indigenous ecological knowledge and cultural connection to the river. Up to 1,200 new residential units are planned in mixed-use buildings that will bring neighbors together alongside restaurants, businesses, Portland Community College (PCC), Portland Opera, and a Center for Tribal Nations. Join Nolan Lienhart, Allison Rouse and Kate Brooks of ZGF Architects, LLP as they share how the urban design and development framework that will support this vision was created.
