Works Progress Architecture was founded in 2005. WPA is a 100% woman owned architectural design firm, as well as a majority woman staffed studio. The firm’s first adaptive reuse projects resulted in a series of endeavors that preserved the nature of the buildings that have made up the urban core of Portland for more than a century. With the extensive understanding of city fabric, WPA has designed buildings that merge into their context yet are provocative, modern and challenging of the contemporary norm. Currently the office has projects in the throughout the United States. These projects include a mixed-use high-rise project; large scale mixed-use developments that include innovative uses of mass timber; multi-family housing projects; and multiple music venue projects. WPA’s work has been internationally recognized with over 45 design awards, including a Progressive Architecture Award 2009, the American Architecture Award by the Chicago Athenaeum of Architecture and Design 2016, a Design Vanguard recognition in 2009, and an AIA Emerging Firm Award in the Northwest Pacific Region 2013.
