As a community of practice, Mahlum creates places that promote healing, wellness, and learning, all within a strong context of community. We seek work that serves the whole rather than the individual, as we believe in the power of design to connect us to one another and to the earth. Deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest, our commitment to design guides every aspect of the firm. By creating spaces that consistently express the culture, aspirations, and identity of the communities we serve, the distinctive character of each is honored, resulting in an architecture that is poetic, enduring, and inspiring.

Founded in 1938, Mahlum has created some of the region’s major landmarks, signature public buildings, and private-sector facilities. We work on small-scale projects and major design initiatives with equal vigor, and we enjoy the diversity of challenge. All of our work reflects an abiding interest in enriching the human experience.
