Net Zero Emerging Leaders Panel This AIA Oregon Digital Design Series includes a 60-minute special panel webinar with discussions from past mentors and mentees of the Energy Trust of Oregon Net Zero Emerging Leader grant program. The panelists present on the different approaches each firm took to develop and implement a reporting process to follow through early design to post-occupancy.

Urban Design Panel 11.16.21 - Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge Update. In late spring 2021, recognizing rising costs due to current economic conditions and competition for funds from other large projects in the region, County leaders asked the Burnside Bridge project team to analyze ways to reduce cost so the project is more likely to be funded and built. Join project team members to learn about the proposed cost saving measures for the Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge.

Digital Design Series - Inclusivity in Design Across Multiple Scales Equity, accessibility, and inclusion don't just happen in the building, but at a variety of scales of human experience. By looking beyond traditional paradigms and challenging what inclusion means at different scales of design, we will uncover lessons learned and implementable strategies to expand our understanding of inclusive design practices. The presenters explore equity, accessibility, and inclusion through a multi-disciplinary design lens including interior design, planning, and architecture. Presented as part of AIA Oregon's 2021 Future Vision event.

Future Vision - Room for More Panel Future Vision 2021 kicks off with a panel co-hosted by Room for More and CoEDI. The panel focuses on the concept of an ‘Equi-District’, exploring what an equi-district could be, its relationship to the built environment, and how the concept can help center equity in our work as designers. Panelists include community members and design professionals for an engaging discussion combining lived and professional experiences.

Urban Design Panel - Better Red Station Area Planning Work Update The TriMet Transit-Oriented Development Team comprising Fiona Lyon, Miles Anderson, and Guy Benn will present the station area planning work being conducted in parallel with TriMet’s Better Red Project. Focused around the east and west segments of the MAX Red Line where the Better Red improvements are occurring, this planning work will identify and promote new vertical and horizontal development components that can support new TOD projects and the surrounding communities.

Digital Design Series - Grant High School Modernization, Mahlum Architects This $138 million, 1,800-student modernization answered a community-wide call to eradicate the boundary between the school and park that developed over time and to re-establish the school as the proud anchor of the community.The engineering and design team used a variety of sustainable strategies to reach LEED Gold certification and meet the community desire for a sustainable, equitable and inclusive facility, that received an Honor Award in the 2020 AIA Oregon Architecture Awards. The presentation will highlight several of these strategies.

Green Champion Summit "The Imperative of Climate Action Now! Understanding Climate Impacts and Taking Personal Responsibility" Part of Sustainable Building Week, the annual AIAO COTE Green Champion Summit brings together sustainability leaders from around the country and the region. Urban Design Panel Presentation: Albina Vision Trust
Albina was the center of Portland’s Black community in the 1930s through 1960s. It’s still a place of heart for many who remember their grandparents and parents homes before displacement became the norm. Albina Vision Trust has daylighted this important history and worked for five years on a vision that will reconnect the Black community with Lower Albina—the area of the Moda Center and VMC. This presentation will review the past year’s work with the community led by Eldorado team to define a new future for this area.

Digital Design Series - Drone Technology in Architecture In this presentation they cover the benefits and limitations associated with the use of drones into the architecture practice, pilot licensure requirements, FAA rules and the LAANC program, and the various uses in the industry including tools/technology for site analysis, renderings and animations, storytelling, and construction administration.

Urban Design Panel The Portland region has led the way for the nation in improving livability and development in the last 50 years. But we are now grappling with a question we avoided for that 50 years - Liveability for who? Metro's work in centering racial equity, focussing on affordability and sustainable economic development is ensuring that we are creating a region that is livable for everyone. In this meeting Metro President Lynn Peterson will initiate a conversation with Panel members about how good urban design intersects with this agenda.

Digital Design Series - The University of Washington Behavioral Health Teaching Facility - A New Comprehensive Integrated Care Model This presentation is about the creative collaboration between clinicians and designers to develop an innovative facility that will support a new model of care. Carl Hampson, Design Principal with SRG Partnership, shared an overview of the exploratory process and the innovative design solution that will establish a new benchmark for behavioral health.

Digital Design Series - Living Buildings - Energy Petal Dynamics Join the net positive design team led by Architect Jean Root and in collaboration with Mechanical Engineer Zack Smith and Principal Controls Consultant Adam Wrzeski. They will discuss their experience through 90% design for their 61,000 SF living building. This unique facility for King County in Seattle, WA, is targeting petal certification.

Digital Design Series - UrbanForm - Making Building Regulations more Accessible Quang Truong, AIA will discuss the development of UrbanForm, an online platform for zoning and building information. Quang will discuss how UrbanForm's technology can improve access to regulatory information, identify development opportunities, focus architectural design and value propositions, generate urban analytic models for policy and planning purposes, and improve equity and participation in the built environment.

The Tally® Life Cycle Assessment App is a Revit plugin that allows architects and other building professionals to conduct Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) using BIM as part of standard architectural practice.
