Invitation to apply for Portland Emerging Professionals Committee 2024

AIA Oregon Portland Section of the Young Emerging Professionals Committee is looking forward to 2024 and to continue improving and diversifying efforts and engagement opportunities for Portland young Emerging Professionals and designers.

As 2024 is getting closer, the Portland Section Emerging Professional Committee is looking forward to adding 3 more members to its current team!

The opportunities are fun, engaging, and full of networking and growth opportunity for young emerging leaders who want to contribute to improving the state of the profession at large and help engage the voice of Young Emerging Professionals in Portland! Here is a breakdown of the different volunteer roles and their specific focus (tasks can obviously evolve as needed and at the discretion of the Committee)-

These volunteer positions aren’t paid but depending on Chapter budget, there is an opportunity to send volunteers to attend the annual AIA Conventions and Leadership Summits!

Note that the interested parties should commit to the chapter for a full calendar year but are free to keep or leave their position at will after completing one year. Considered parties will start their volunteer position from January of 2024 to December 2024.

Position 1:

AIAO Portland Section Emerging Professionals Committee Co-chair (1-2 hours per week)

-Assoc. AIA, Emerging Professional

- Focus on advocating for members at an associate level, pre-licensure

- Coordinate & communicate current efforts with AIAO Board EPC liaison (Daniel Roth) & Portland section director (Ben Arico and/or Elisa An)

- Coordinate events logistics with AIA Staff through continuous communication (co-chairs can share this role)

- Compile monthly meetings agenda and share agenda with team (co-chairs can share this role)

- Help Coordinate recruiting efforts for the following year

- Closely work with AIA Oregon Staff to engage sponsors interested in being part of AIA Oregon

Position 2:

AIAO Portland Section Emerging Professionals Committee Co-chair (1-2 hours per week)

- Licensed Emerging Professional

- Focus on advocating for members recently licensed &/or >10 years into their professional career

- Coordinate & communicate current efforts on a monthly basis with AIAO Board EPC liaison (Daniel Roth) & Portland section director (Ben Arico and/or Elisa An)

- Coordinate events logistics with AIA Staff through continuous communication (co-chairs can share this role)

- Compile monthly meetings agenda and share agenda with team (co-chairs can share this role)

- Help   Coordinate recruiting efforts for the following year

- Closely work with AIAO Staff to engage sponsors interested in being part of AIAO

Position 3:

AIAO Portland Section Emerging Professionals Committee Taskforce Coordinator (1-2 hours per week)

- Assoc. AIA, Emerging Professional/ or licensed Emerging Professional

- Either head up a task force or start the ball rolling, work with chairs & AIAO staff to set up initial meetings, connect the right people and make sure it’s being led or championed by someone before stepping back 

Position 4:

AIAO Portland Section Emerging Professionals Committee Graphics Coordinator + Social Media co- Chair (1-2 hours per week)

- Assoc. AIA, Emerging Professional/ or licensed Emerging Professional

- Responsible for spearheading event graphics

- Documents Emerging Professionals events through Instagram stories, social media posts

- Closely working with AIA Oregon staff and representatives of other AIA Oregon sections towards communicating events & promoting community engagement

The 2023 AIA Oregon Board of Directors is pleased to call for applications for At-Large Director.

This is a deliberate change from “nomination” to application, in the hopes that the intention of inclusion and belonging are clearly shared and understood. This process is not closed, nor are there membership prerequisites. If you are a member of AIA Oregon (Associate, International Associate, or AIA), then you are eligible for application.

Also, if you are a member of NOMA nationally or locally, you are considered eligible for AIA Oregon leadership, and we extend the full rights and privileges of membership in AIA Oregon to all NOMA members. That includes member pricing on events, opportunities to lead, and participation in awards programs.
