WASHINGTON – Dec. 11, 2020 – The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Board of Directors Friday adopted new rules in its Code of Ethics regarding the design of justice facilities. This, among other things, reflects AIA’s ongoing effort to meaningfully address structural racism in the built environment and to uphold our professional values.

The Gold Medal is the AIA’s highest annual honor, recognizing individuals whose work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture.
AIA Architecture Firm Award 2021
Every year, the AIA recognizes one firm that has produced notable architecture for at least a decade.
Whitney M. Young Jr. Award 2021
Named for civil rights leader Whitney M. Young Jr., this award distinguishes an architect or architectural organization that embodies social responsibility and actively addresses a relevant issue, such as affordable housing, inclusiveness, or universal access.
Edward C. Kemper Award 2021
From 1914 to 1948, Edward C. Kemper led the AIA as executive director. Since 1950, this award has honored members who carry on his legacy of continued and significant service to the AIA.
