An Objective Comparison of Rigid Polystyrene Insulations – EPS AND XPS
1 AIA LU|HSW
Presented by Kyle Fung, Geofoam Specifications Manager, Insulfoam
This presentation will showcase the manufacturing process, similarities and differences between Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and Extruded Polystyrene (XPS), as well as the environmental and sustainable benefits they posses. During the course, attendees will learn about the benefits of meeting ASTM C578 requirements and be able to determine which product is best for their project based on application and cost.
Learning Objective 1:
Define and understand the similarities and differences between how Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) are manufactured
Learning Objective 2:
Learn about the environmental features and benefits of polystyrene insulation including recyclability, LEED, thermal performance, energy efficiency, reducing global warming and mold resistance
Learning Objective 3:
Understanding ASTM C578: Standard Specification for Rigid, Cellular Polystyrene Thermal Insulation Review physical property data of both EPS and XPS: Compressive Strength, Long Term Moisture Retention and Sustainable R-Value
Learning Objective 4:
Analyze the project and determine what application, R-Value and PSI is the best for the building.
