Cascade Middle School replaced the former 1955 school as part of Bethel School District's 2020 bond. The school is home to a tight knit community that emphasizes interaction, collaboration and school pride.  Designed for 450 students, the new school has an L-shaped layout entered through the center to a Commons/Cafeteria that serves as the school's social center. The Commons opens to a plaza that provides a secure outdoor connection. To the south is a two-story classroom wing arranged around a circulation loop with daylit shared learning areas in the center.  North of the Commons are the Band and Choir rooms, while the main and auxiliary gyms form the east wing that can be used by the local sports community after school hours.

Extensive site development surrounding the school provides safe bus, car, bike and pedestrian access, and required careful phasing to allow full operation of the existing school throughout construction.  The new building displaced the Willamette High School softball field, and as part of the project, a new synthetic turf field was built to the north of the new school. The design of the softball field was expanded to provide a full size soccer practice field, extending the use of the field to all seasons.

Mark Young, AIA, LEED AP BD+C of Rowell Brokaw will lead the tour.
