We are pleased to invite you to the first annual AIA Oregon Leadership Summit.
At this event AIA members will gather in Salem, Oregon to learn first-hand about current legislative agenda items that affect the architectural community and the clients we serve. We will also hear from the Oregon State Board of Architectural Examiners (OSBAE) and discuss the importance of networking.
The Oregon Leadership Summit was especially designed to be an exciting opportunity for emerging professionals and new members. A new, member-driven concept, it gives you the opportunity to discuss ongoing legislation and meet the Oregon licensing board, which is no longer part of the licensure process. For members interested in public policy, governance, and local and national issues, this event is crucial to becoming a “citizen architect,” and you’ll have the chance to meet with your state representatives at the Capitol.
Not sure if this is for you? Join us February 7 for an informational session with Heather Wilson and AIA Oregon Emerging Professional leadership. We’ll discuss what to expect, how to prepare, and how you can have the greatest impact on policies that shape your professional landscape.
Summit Schedule:
9:00 am: Leadership Breakfast and Capitol Briefing
AIA Oregon Legislative Affairs Committee: Meet the AIA members and allied volunteers that make up the current AIA Oregon Legislative Affairs Committee, and how you can be involved. You will learn first-hand how architects interact with law makers from our contract lobbyist, Cindy Robert, and EVP / CEO Heather Wilson will share any Federal updates members should know about ahead of the 2024 AIA Leadership Summit in Washington DC, Feb 27 – Mar1. Attendees will participate in our AIA Oregon lobbying efforts by visiting representatives’ offices on appointments. Learn the many ways of engaging as a “Citizen Architect” member!
10:00am-12:00pm: Leadership Lobbying Appointments
Oregon State Capital: Some may have never visited the Oregon State Capital Building or seen the Legislative Chambers. We will bring issues that affect architects and their clients directly to our State Representatives. This activity will be guided by representatives of the AIA Oregon Legislative Affairs Committee and the AIA Oregon Board of Directors.
12:00-1:00 pm: Emerging Professionals Leadership Lunch
Oregon State Board of Architecture Examiners (OSBAE): With current State requirements, newly licensed architects no longer meet with the Board of Architect Examiners as Jurisprudence Exams are taken online, and license certificates are mailed. The EP Leadership Lunch will give the opportunity to meet staff members from OSBAE along with Governor-appointed members of the Board. This will provide an opportunity to talk directly to OSBAE officials and learn what the State Organization means for our profession.
1:00pm-2:00pm: Networking is NOT a Dirty Word: An open discussion will examine the concept of networking and how to use networking to build mentor relationships and advance your career while making new friends. Dedicated time will be available for members throughout the State to connect and learn from each other in person.
2:00 pm: Summit ends
Funding:
