This course is specifically designed to assist small architecture firms in identifying if they qualify for the R&D Tax Credit, 179D Energy Efficient Commercial Building Deduction and the Employee Retention Tax Credit. Attendees will learn about the history of these tax incentives and what legislatives changes have taken place and where the tax incentives are headed in the future and how your firm can capitalize on them.

Understand and Identify target-rich environments for Research & Development activities utilizing the 4-part test and basic exclusions.

Learn and understand the most recent updates on legislation for the R&D Tax Credit along with 174 Amortization.

Identify and understand the Qualifications and eligible properties of the Energy Efficient Commercial Building Deduction – IRC Sec 179D.

Learn what the Employee Retention Tax Credit is and whether or not your firm may qualify. Identify what documents are needed to determine qualification.

Alyssa Honnette is BRAYN’s Director of Business Tax Services (BTS) and oversees the Operations Department of BRAYN professionals who implement the firm’s R&D Credit, 174 Expense, Cost Segregation, Investment Tax Credit (ITC), and Employee Retention Credit (ERC) Services.
Alyssa’s has 12 years experience in R&E/R&D Tax Applications, having spent the most recent 7+ years in RSM McGladrey’s Federal Credits & Incentives Group. For the last portion of Alyssa’s RSM tenure, she oversaw the quality review process for all R&D Credit applications to the A/E/C Industry nationwide.
Alyssa earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Masters of Arts (M.A.) degrees from Carleton College and Rice University, resp, andshe is an IRS Enrolled Agent.

Gareth Young, P.E. is the Manager of BRAYN's Building Science practices including the 179D Energy Efficient Commercial Building deduction, the 45L Energy Efficient Home Tax Credit, ENERGY STAR consulting, and Cost Segregation comprising a team of engineers, energy modelers, raters, and inspectors.
Gareth received his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and his Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Houston. He is licensed to practice engineering in over 30 states, is a registered HERS rater, ENERGY STAR certifier, and serves as an Engineering Duty Officer in the US Navy Reserve. He lives in Houston, TX with his wife of nineteen years, their two children, and two dogs.
