This one hour course covering many of your most common design challenges regarding fire / life safety and egress. Case studies will be used from built projects, showing creative and safe solutions. It is possible to solve code issues, have the design be open, and still safe for occupants. New products in the market will be discussed and evaluated. Different building occupancies will be covered.

Dan Quatier, MS-FPE, Assoc AIA
Dan Quatier grew up in construction, having a father who was a drywall contractor and taught him the trade. He graduated from Washington State University in 1980 with dual degrees in Construction Management and Architecture.
After graduation, Dan worked in Spokane as a project engineer for Hoffman Construction and was with Hoffman for 3 years. He spent the next 21 years with Baugh Construction / Skanska. Dan served as Baugh’s Oregon Division President and after Skanska acquired Baugh Construction, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Skanska-Western Region. During this time he also headed up Skanska’s national Injury Free Workplace initiative and the national Skanska University training program.
Dan has a Master’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. He loves working with the design community and assisting with providing solutions to complex fire and life safety challenges.
Dan had the opportunity to purchase Interior Technology in January 2005 and is co-owner with his partner Jason Ledesma. Dan spends his time focusing on the fire/life safety side of the business and our new markets. Interior Tech is a 75-year-old specialty contractor with offices in Seattle, Portland, Spokane, Vancouver B.C., and Billings, MT.
Dan is an active member of AIA, CSI, SFPE, and various ICC chapters. He has been married to his wife Carolyn for 40 years and they have four adult children.
Dan owns a 1957 Airstream trailer that he can’t wait to restore.
