1 AIA LU|HSW Available
Join the AIA Bend Section members and allied trades for a tour of the Larkspur Community Center! The tour will be led by the project's general contractor and BPRD services and maintenance staff, and will take place directly after the AIA Bend Section Summer Picnic.
The Larkspur Community Center Project consisted of a 35,000 sf expansion to the existing Bend Senior Center, as well as a renovation to the Senior Center itself. The expansion included a 5,000 sf warm water pool, lazy river and spa, an indoor walk/jog track, fitness areas, changing rooms, locker rooms, main lobby and administrative spaces. The project tour will walk participants through the addition and discuss the materials used and construction impacts in detail.
Free for AIA Members, $15 for Non-Members. More information coming soon!
Learning Objective 1:
How the use of CMU/steel and metal stud construction instead of wood framing streamlined the construction process and minimized environmental impacts.
Learning Objective 2:
How the Natatorium envelope and seal work to limit the spread of moisture to adjacent spaces, thus improving occupant health by limiting the likelihood of mold and mildew in the rest of the building.
Learning Objective 3:
Why each of the various flooring materials were selected and installed, and the impacts they have on occupant safety by reducing the likelihood of trips and/or slips.
Learning Objective 4:
How the overall layout and fenestration was designed, and the positive impacts it has on occupant safety and welfare by providing streamlined paths of travel and an abundance of natural light.
