CSI Willamette Valley, ASLA Willamette Valley Section, and AIA Eugene Invite you to a tour of the Farmers Market Pavilion and Plaza. The Lane County Farmers Market is one of the anchors of the Eugene community; a place to buy fresh, local produce, but also a place to meet up with a friend or run into a neighbor. The new Farmers Market Pavilion and Plaza will support this beloved institution, giving the Market more space to grow while showing our community’s pride in our local farms and food producers.
Demolition and site preparation broke ground in May, and construction of the Pavilion, Plaza and Right of Way began in August. Completion is forecast for spring 2022, in time for the 2022 Farmers Market season.
Free for CSI/AIA/ASLA members (CE included), or non-members who don’t want the CE. $15 for non-members who want CE.
Learning Objectives:
Learning Objective 1:
Participants will learn about how the entire Park Blocks area has been designed for greater accessibility. By minimizing vertical grade change, ramps, and stairs, and elevating the roads surrounding the Town Square, the design creates a “curbless” environment from building face to building face.
Learning Objective 2:
Participants will learn about measures taken to improve the overall safety of the area and make it more welcoming to the public by minimizing walls, tall plantings, and elevated areas and improving lighting to increase sight lines into and within Town Square, as well as allowing easy movement between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Learning Objective 3:
Participants will learn about emergency safety features incorporated in the design, including the emergency electrical system, egress lighting, and a unique “invisible” sprinkler system.
Learning Objective 4:
Participants will learn about the design’s inclusion of Cross-Laminated Timber, the ecological and economical reasons it was chosen for the project, issues encountered, and lessons learned.
