COTE Digital Design Series - NZELI Panel discussion: Going all in on the AIA 2030 Challenge

1 AIA LU|HSW Available

Join Energy Trust and AIA Oregon for a panel discussion with AIA 2030 Signatories as part of the AIA Digital Design Series. The AIA 2030 Challenge calls on architects to achieve net zero emissions by 2030.

In this session, signatory firms will share their history with the 2030 Challenge, barriers to reporting, best practices for analyzing and reporting data, and what’s next for them as they deepen their commitment to net zero carbon. The panel will be an informal, facilitated discussion (without a PowerPoint deck!) and provides an opportunity for attendees to ask practical questions about what it takes to go all in on the Challenge. Energy Trust will also share information about its Net Zero Emerging Leaders Internship, an annual grant program that funds design firms to hire interns to support reporting requirements.

If your firm is a recent 2030 signatory or considering becoming one, this discussion is for you.

Panelists:

Matt Bokar, Net Zero Emerging Leaders Internship Mentor
Erica Dunn, Senior Associate, Opsis
Lindsey Naganuma, Architectural Designer, SERA

Facilitator:

Elin Shepard, Outreach Manager, Energy Trust New Buildings

Learning Objectives

Learning Objective 1:
Participants will be able to explain the requirements of the AIA 2030 Commitment and how design teams can support integrated data tracking for improving greater occupant comfort and resiliency of the building. They will be able to show others how investment in high performance design is an investment in occupant’s comfort, satisfaction, and well-being.

Learning Objective 2:
Participants will be able to understand how the experience of tracking and reporting portfolio data had an impact on each firms approach to improving processes for designing high-performance buildings. And how project planning related to the preliminary design of sites and buildings identifies and incorporates energy efficiency strategies along with the safety of building occupants.

Learning Objective 3:
Participants will learn about the practicality of a dedicated resource or office champion who can influence the practice around firm’s data reporting, sustainability action plan, and design guidelines. They will also learn of opportunities to receive a grant from Energy Trust of Oregon to fund an intern to support 2030 reporting in future years.

Learning Objective 4:
Participants will learn how implementing energy efficiency into the early design strategies enables equitable access to energy efficiency for occupants by normalizing net-zero or high-performance design early in preliminary or schematic design.
