The use of drones by architecture firms and those working in the AEC industry is becoming more common in everyday use. For architects, drones can be used to reach vantage points and capture a myriad of imagery that is useful in every stage of the design process. The ever-growing ambitious sector of drone imagery is taking giant steps forward with orthomosaics, photogrammetry, VR integration, and animations that are highly useful in design, site analysis, and construction documentation. It’s quickly becoming a tool every firm should employ.
While once a grey area, the FAA has developed specific regulations that make the integration of drone technology into practice easier, and it is critical to understand the extents of those regulations and their practical applications. In this presentation we will cover the benefits and limitations associated with the use of drones into the architecture practice, pilot licensure requirements, FAA rules and the LAANC program, and the various uses in the industry including tools/technology for site analysis, renderings and animations, storytelling, and construction administration.
