Housing is both home and commodity. A source of economic insecurity for some, and economic gain for others. Oregon will soon re-legalize "missing middle" housing, creating one of the greatest housing development opportunities in decades. Who will benefit? The C Street Co-op, currently in construction in Springfield, Oregon will create six permanently affordable homeownership opportunities. It will receive only a tenth of the subsidy required for typical affordable housing developments. What can we learn from this example that may help us extend the economic gains of this development opportunity to a wider range of Oregonians?
