“Housing is Healthcare”
The connection between housing and healthcare has become increasingly clear in the past decade, and even more critical during the current pandemic. Studies show that unhoused populations are more likely to have adverse health conditions, and that added health stress can lead to chronic houselessness. Dave Otte from Holst Architecture will present three AIA award-winning case studies in affordable housing that look to provide innovative housing solutions with improved health outcomes through elevated design.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the programming and planning efforts early in the design process that lead to increased health outcomes from housing design
2. Understand the technical details during the design and construction process that improve building performance and occupant health
3. Understand the link between health outcomes and housing stability through post evaluation efforts
4. Understand the structural barriers in our society to providing more affordable housing
