As construction budgets get smaller and differed maintenance projects get larger, project planning tools that assess existing building conditions and construction projects on historic structures are often overlooked. These reports are critical to focusing the project scope while minimizing project errors. They are also a critical tool that supports fundraising efforts and volunteer labor. Using historic examples from the Silver Falls State Park Youth Camp, Tryon State Park, and the Pacific Northwest Preservation Field School, this presentation will discuss the value of Condition Assessment Reports and Preservation Plans when working on historic structures.
