AIA Oregon Social Justice Listening Session

Our communities are suffering from the impacts of the global pandemic, but while we are all in the same storm, we are not in the same boat.  The impacts of the pandemic have hit underrepresented communities disproportionately hard.  With this as the backdrop, the senseless murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery reinforces that our society’s commitment to ‘and justice for all’ isn’t strong enough.

We acknowledge that we are part of an unjust system that has created vast inequities within our community. The outrage and pain our neighbors feel is real and warranted, and we need to do something meaningful at this time. Action starts with understanding.  This session is the first of an on-going dialogue,  AIA Oregon will be actively listening and learning and accepting our responsibility to enact positive change.

The AIA Oregon Social Justice Listening Session is an opportunity for anyone to express their feelings about the long standing social injustices, identify what leaders in our profession and firms need to understand to make creating environments that are more welcoming and supportive for everyone, and brainstorm what we can all do together to improve our communities.

All are welcome and encouraged to participate.
