AIA Oregon Education Opportunities

To further the profession, the AIA requires its members to complete 18 Continuing Education Services Learning Units (CES LUs) per year.  AIA Oregon offers many opportunities for CE, providing programs at the State and Section level, as well as inviting in other providers for Lunch & Learns, Happy Hours, and our popular Procrastinator’s Day.

Looking for courses to fulfill CES requirements? Search our Continuing Education Events to see what opportunities AIA Oregon has coming up.

Presenting your own CEU

AIA Oregon is an official AIA Continuing Education (CE) Provider. If you wish to have AIA Oregon supply CE Units for an AIA Oregon Committee or Section Sponsored program that will be aimed at AIA members, you need to apply through AIAO staff.

Please note: AIA Oregon does not make the decision on whether a program receives AIA LU or AIA LU|HSW - the ultimate approval is given by National.

Learning Objectives - AIA/CES requires that all providers submit learning objectives for each program they register. There is a minimum requirement of 4 learning objectives per course for continuing education courses. Please note that if your course is HSW (see below), 3 of 4 of your objectives must be specifically related to HSW content.

How to Write Great Learning Objectives Instructions provided by AIA DC on writing Learning Objectives.

Health, Safety & Welfare AIA Architect members are required to complete 18 LUs each calendar year. Of those 18 LUs, 12 must be in Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) topics. Learning programs directly covering Health, Safety, and Welfare topics will receive LU|HSW credit. Your class/program will be more likely to gain interest if it includes HSW. For a learning activity to qualify as HSW, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Content must directly support the HSW definition

  • Content must include one of more of the AIA CES acceptable HSW topics

  • At least 75 percent of the content must be on HSW
